Content Is NOT King!
I know, you have heard on every freaking seo page and forum that content is King. Well I hate to break it to you, but content is NOT King! It's merely a pawn in the great game of chess!
You must be thinking either this is seo blasphemy or I'm crazy! Well it may be seo blasphemy, but I'm not crazy. If content was king, we'd all be rich right now. We wouldn't need any seo, or very little seo. There would be no black hats, and there would probably be peace in the middle east too. Well it's time to wake up and accept the cold hard fact that content is no where near as important as people will have you believe it is! Hear me out before you bail on me.
The web is made up of a lot of very well written interesting pages. There are millions and millions of content rich web sites that can't make a dime! Why? Certainly not the content is it? Nope. It's got more to do with the general public, the web surfers. We are talking about a very bored population if they have to spend so much time on the Internet. Also important is the fact that they are in a hurry! Most will not even be on your site for 2 minutes! So you have 2 minutes to capture their attention! And it won't be by displaying your witty, original content rich perfectly seo'd web site! Like I said, if it was that easy, we'd all be rich!
There are two major elements in commercial web sites, web sites that are trying to make money. Web design, and sales promotion. When you visit seo pages and forums you will be hearing about how to optimize your pages for search engines, and how content is King. Seems like a contradiction to me, but that's another article. It's like talking to an engineer. The guy who designed the automobile your thinking of buying. Now if you were selling cars, who would you want in the lots trying to sell, the engineers, or sales people? Sure the engineers can explain why this car works the way it does, and why it's a technological break through, but that won't sell the car. you need a sales person to explain to Mr. and Mrs. Consumer that they are going to really enjoy this car! Just look how great it looks, take it for a test drive! I can see you now enjoying your brand new car! Notice even here the real content is not important. The sales person knows he only has minutes to capture their interest and keep it. It won't be by explaining the gear ratio. It will be by playing in to the greatest human attributes, emotions and feelings.
So if you want to make serious money on the Internet, forget about content being king. Instead think about optimizing your pages for people first, search engines second. Think about how to capture their interest in the first 2 minutes! This is one of the reasons mini pages and sales pages make more money then content rich web pages! You may not see the value in them, but remember you are looking at them in a different light, through the eyes of a seo, they look cheesy and spammy to you, where's the content? How can any one make any money from pages like that! They don't even have 1000 BL!
Please don't misunderstand what I am trying to say here. I am not suggesting you do not need good content, nor am I suggesting content doesn't count or have value. What I am saying is I would not consider it *the* most important factor in sales. I am suggesting that your sales optimization is *the* most important factor in sales. In order to do better in sales you will need to get out of the content is king mind frame, and put your emphases on the sales end of things. Don't get carried away thinking all you need is great content alone to make a decent earning. It's not enough. There are millions of sites with great content and great products. You need to be better then them, and if you have any sales skills in you, it won't be that hard simply because most of those sites have it backwards.
So like a good game of chess, we have our content, which is our pawns. Our most powerful pieces are our sales techniques. Remember you can still win a chess game being a pawn or two down, but it's really hard winning when your a major piece down! Sure content is important, but it's definitely not king in the real game of life!
